Best Yoga & Meditation Apps For Kids 2020—I Love These!

As a meditation teacher, many parents asked me for advice on the best yoga and meditation apps for kids. You might have noticed that in 2020 there are tons of apps, like Calm and Headspace for meditation, and yoga apps like Cosmic Kids Yoga and various yoga-streaming apps too.

I tell most of my parent-students that it is a personal thing. What I think is the best app might not be the right one for their kids. I actually don’t have kids myself yet, although I have taught many kids to meditate. But what I certainly do know is that we are all unique individuals. That’s why I’ve made a list of all different types of apps, so that I can help you find the best ones for your kids and their unique personalities. 

Picking the best meditation app for kids isn’t easy, simply because there are so many of them. That’s why I thought I would share this guide for parents to help you choose the best kids yoga apps and the best meditation app for kids.

1: Headspace for Kids

The brainchild of former Zen monk Andy Puddicombe, Headspace has become the biggest mindfulness app of all time and is popular with both parents and their kids. The app contains lots of kids meditations, including visualizations, breathing exercises and various guided meditations. The kids’ version features five primary categories of meditation: wake-up, calm, sleep, focus, and kindness. A one-year subscription costs $69.99.

Choose this app is you want your kids to develop the habit of meditation.


2: Moshi

Moshi is a meditation app for kids that is based around those loveable creatures the Moshi Monsters, which was one of the most popular children’s video games of all time. It focuses mostly on helping kids get to sleep at night with bedtime stories.

There are more than 45 hours of original audio stories, meditation, music and sounds, some of which are voiced by famous celebrities like Goldie Hawn and Patrick Stewart.

I love the quality of presentation in this app. I find it really fun. And I love a lot of the voice actors. My favourite is Patrick Stewart, but they are all really good.

Choose this app if you want your kids to get to sleep more easily and to have fun learning mindfulness.


3: Stop, Breathe & Think

Stop, Breathe & Think is one of the more fun and enjoyable meditation apps for kids and has special meditations designed to help kids process emotions, get to sleep, and focus.

Stop, Breathe & Think is an excellent app for teaching kids about mindfulness. There are also stickers that kids can win by completing “missions”, which motivates kids to practice mindfulness.

In my opinion this is the best kids meditation app for getting children to focus and to have better emotional awareness.

4: Mindfulness for children app

The Mindfulness for Children app was designed and developed by a Danish psychologist. It’s an audio-only app that features easy breathing meditation techniques that kids can use to relax and focus. These are excellent for helping the little ones overcome stress. There are also Body Scan meditations and nature sounds.

This one is suitable for kids over five-years-old. There is a free package and a premium one that costs $4.99.

This is the best meditation app for kids if you want something that psychologically proven to work and you don’t mind it being audio-only.

5: Meditation for kids – calmness, mindfulness, sleep

This app helps kids to handle stress, focus, improve emotional intelligence, and connect. It’s a yoga and meditation app for kids to help them learn both practices. There are relaxing sounds and lessons on various aspects of meditation.

The reason why I consider this one of the best meditation apps for kids is because it is so easy to use. It’s very intuitive so kids can start using it easily. There’s also lovely meditation music and soothing sounds to help kids to feel Zen.

A lot of my parent-students tell me that their kids struggle to sleep, and I usually recommend this app for them.

6. Smiling Mind

Smiling Minds is a meditation app with tons of different mindfulness sessions. It was developed by a team of psychologists, so you can be confident that it is good for your kids’ health. It’s very quick to start using and the meditations are easy enough for the little ones to follow along to.

Choose this app if you like a scientifically-backed app that helps kids learn the basics of meditation.



7: BBC Go Explore

Being produced by the BBC, you already know that “Go Explore” is has excellent production values. It’s scientifically backed and arguably the most trustworthy of all kids meditation apps. It contains all sorts of games and mindful activities to help kids deal with stress and become more mindful. Best of all, it is completely free, has zero advertising and no in-app purchases. 

I absolutely love pretty much everything the BBC does. I find their production values second to none. And I’m happy to say that this app is also excellent.

1: Cosmic Kids

 Cosmic Kids Yoga is the app equivalent to the very popular Youtube channel, which gained fame after it used various pop-culture icons in its yoga videos. The reason why this is one of the best yoga apps for kids is that it is so bright, fun, and cheerful. Kids won’t be able to stop smiling when they use this app!

This is the best yoga app for kids if you want your little one to have tons of fun and to be motivated to practise yoga.

I AM LOVE is a kids yoga app that teaches 13 yoga poses that are demonstrated by kids. It’s an interactive story that helps kids to learn yoga. There are also stories to help them to relax, and breath affirmations.

Choose this app if you’re looking for a very simple app to get the kids started.


3: Yoga Kids

Yoga Kids is a kids yoga app that gets your children to relax by teaching them 39 different yoga poses. The reason this is one of the best yoga apps for kids is that it is very easy to use and intuitive. Kids can control the speed of the videos, the sounds and movements. It’s a really great app for getting kids to take an interest in yoga.

4: Yoga for Kids and Family fitness – Easy Workout

Doubtlessly, this is one of the most popular and best yoga apps for kids. It has a whopping 4.5 star review average from over 5,800 reviewers (at time of writing). That’s impressive!

The app is designed to help kids stay physically active through yoga. It displays different poses and workout plans to help the little ones stay fit, and kids will especially love the fun animal yoga poses.  There are also nutrition facts and other tips to make kids more aware of their health and wellbeing.

This is the best yoga app for kids if you don’t just want the little ones to learn about yoga but also about other elementary aspects of health.
