Hello Yoga App Review—One On One Tuition At Home

hello yoga app review

Yoga streaming platforms and apps are all the rage at the moment, especially when we are all self-isolating and unable to get to local yoga classes. Many teachers have been looking for ways to teach yoga online, and simultaneously, yogis are looking for ways to practice yoga at home.

Many people who have started practising yoga at home have noted on Insta and Facebook that they have sustained injuries, largely because they are performing asanas incorrectly because they do not have proper tuition.

Yoga apps and Youtube videos make it easy to find yoga classes to follow along to, but without the help of one on one tuition, it is easy to make a mistake when performing yoga, to misplace your feet or overstretch your arms, and hey presto you’ve sustained an injury.

Beginners yogis need proper tuition to start practising correctly. Many of the different types of yoga involve complicated poses or asanas that could potentially lead to injury if you do them incorrectly, hence why proper tuition is essential. And that is precisely what the Hello Yoga App provides.

Hello Yoga App Review

The Hello Yoga app seeks to fill the gap between at-home yoga and the studio experience by giving you private one-on-one lessons with a proper yoga teacher for the price of $16 per hour. The platform gives you access to a yoga teacher in your home, and all you need to do is bring your towel, your yoga pants, and whatever other yoga equipment you use (you will also need your phone or computer to view the lessons).

The Hello Yoga app really couldn’t have been released at a better time. The app was released just prior to the government-mandated closure of yoga studios (and many people are wondering when we will go back to yoga studio classes).

Many yogis are missing the in-studio experience and searching for ways to get the same experience at home. And that is precisely what the Hello Yoga app provides. You’re given a qualified yoga instructor and personal tuition that should, in theory, mean that your lessons are far more beneficial for you as an individual.

The Hello Yoga app comes with a 3-day free trial, which is significantly less than most yoga apps but justifiably so given that you get one on one tuition. The app is intuitive so you will get to grips with it quickly. You can select your yoga teacher and your appointment and yoga style. The styles of yoga available include  Hatha, Yin, Vinyasa, Freeform and Ashtanga.  After your free trial period, the cost is $89 per month. It’s definitely a premium price ticket for an app, but given the nature of the lessons, this seems perfectly justifiable.

Taking a one-on-one yoga lesson via an app is definitely a unique experience. It can be a little intimidating the first time you try it because you don’t know your yoga teacher, but then again, even if you fall flat on your face you can just turn the laptop off! The teacher welcomes you to the class and, the first time, asks you how much experience you have and other questions. They then use this information to customise your yoga class, so it’s perfect for your individual needs.

Classes then proceed as you’d expect, with a focus on asanas and pranayama and instructions from your teacher so you get your yoga moves right. Most of the teachers seem well qualified and offer good guidance

One of the lovely things about the Hello Yoga app is that you get the yoga-studio experience without having to worry about whether other people are looking at you. Or is it just me who suffers from that self-awareness? It’s in many ways a more comfortable experience than your typical yoga studio class, and you can go at your own pace.

One thing I was curious about is how the Hello Yoga app finds its instructors and how qualified they are. To be a teacher on the Hello Yoga app, you need to have at least 200 hours of experience teaching yoga, and most of the teachers on the app have significantly more experience than that. The staff at Hello Yoga have an interview process where they interview yoga teachers online to check they are qualified and experienced enough to teach. It’s a helpful quality-assurance procedure that means you know you’re getting high-quality tuition.

It seems like the Hello Yoga app was destined to succeed. Having been released, by pure coincidence, at a time when more people are searching for at-home one-on-one yoga lessons than ever before, it is perfectly poised to capitalise on the current market. And the high quality of the app and its tuition make it the perfect platform to provide our at-home-yoga-studio experience.

Definitely worth taking the free trial. And I am certainly happy to add it to my list of the best yoga streaming apps & platforms.
