In my Ultimate Guide To Metta Bhavana I shared everything you need to know about Metta and revealed 19 benefits of loving kindness.. But what better way to learn than with Buddha’s actual script on Metta Bhavana / Loving Kindness Meditation.
There are really two versions of a Metta Bhavana script. There is the modern interpretation, which is a simplified version that you can use to meditate on. And there is the actual Buddha script on Metta Bhavana, which reveals the true meaning of loving kindness meditation.
Let’s take a look at both. Starting with the short loving kindness script.
Short loving kindness script:
This is a modern script for Loving Kindness Meditation. It is a sort of prayer that you can use when doing Metta meditation.
May (name of person) have loving kindness. May they have love, peace, strength and success. May they also have the strength to overcome all obstacles).
I personally like to then add, “I am one with [name of person]. I love [name of person]”
Remember to visualise the other person saying the loving kindness script back to you!
This loving kindness meditation script trains the mind to give and receive love and kindness, while also offering compassion for human suffering (you might want to read this amazing insight on why kindness and compassion matter so much)
When you repeat this loving kindness meditation script you will greatly increase your connection to other people (and animals too if you practice Metta on animals). But that’s just one of the benefits.
There are several different versions of the Metta meditation script (partly because translations vary and partly because, you know: The Internet). However, this in my opinion is the best loving kindness meditation script.

Don’t you just love Buddha’s wisdom?
Metta truly is important. But we here at THE DAILY MEDITATION have found that a lot of people do metta meditation incorrectly (here is how to do Metta meditation properly.)
That’s why we’ve written this guide on how to do loving kindness meditation correctly. I’ve also put the scientific benefits of loving kindness meditation below (you will not believe some of them!).
“With a boundless heart of loving kindness, hold yourself and all beings as your beloved children.” – Guatama Buddha.
But remember, metta meditation is just one part of the journey towards spiritual enlightenment.
