Imagine it: Your own at-home yoga space. A divine abode where you can enjoy your workouts with no distractions. Somewhere where you wont be reminded of those day to day things you have to do, where you’re not tripping up over the kid’s toys, somewhere just for you and yoga.
Personally I need a space at home where I can do nothing but yoga and meditation. It gives me a way to escape, to chill, to unwind, you know?

Today I am going to show you how to create a yoga studio at home. That way you will have the perfect space in which to start practicing yoga at home.

Choose the right room for yoga at home
Before you can actually create a home yoga studio, you are going to need to decide which room of your house to put it in.
You might be doing this as a part of a complete home makeover. In which case, read my guide to how to Zen your home.
Which room should you use for yoga? Well, if you’re like me and you don’t exactly live in a mansion, this could be a seriously easy choice. If you’ve only got one spare room, that where you’re yoga room is going to go.
But what if you’re one of the lucky people who has a handful of spare rooms. Which is the best spare room for yoga?
Well, here are a few things you’ll want to consider.
Put it somewhere where there’s natural sunlight. After all, you want that vitamin D while you’re rocking your favorite asana.
Also make sure it’s somewhere relatively quiet. You don’t want to hear the neighbours when you’re rocking your Warrior III. You probably don’t want to hear the kids either, am I right?
Obviously make sure you actually have plenty of space for any pose you might want to rock.
Ask yourself whether you’re likely to commit this space to your practice, or are you just going to end up putting your yoga mat away to make space for other things?
Now once you have chosen the right room for yoga, you will want to determine the overall mood you want for the room.
Setting The Right Mood
How do you want to feel when you practice? Do you want to feel relaxed? Energised? Positive? Healed?
Whichever way you want to feel, you will want to match that feeling in the way you design your yoga room.
Here are some ways to do that:
Get the colour right. Research shows that colours do indeed affect the way we feel. So make sure you paint the room a colour that create the right emotions. Use colour psychology to help you out [here’s a guide].
Incorporate artwork: Research shows that art does affect the way we feel. You can actually make your house produce positive emotions just by incorporating the right artwork. There are tons of great artworks available online [and offline to, if you prefer], so try to find some art that creates positive feelings of happiness, calm and energy. Use shape: Different shapes create different emotions when we see them . You can make use of this in your furniture and other items in your yoga studio. For instance, an armchair with soft curvature will make you feel more relaxed than a chair that uses all straight edges. So be sure to use furniture that evokes the right mood.
Accessories: Use accessories to create a specific mood in your yoga room. This is quick and easy. If, for instance, you just want a calm yoga studio, dot some white flowers around the room. If you want the room to be a creative space, include some chic furniture. You might like to use some recyclable yoga products to help the environment!
Inject Mother Nature Into It
One thing we yogis tend to agree on is the beauty of nature. And one of the best ways to improve your yoga room is to incorporate nature into it.
There are myriad ways to do this. Personally, I love water features because they create a soothing energy in the room. Or you might like to use flowers.
These natural items, along with some sunlight through the window, will help make your yoga room feel natural, energising and relaxing. Precisely the type of room you want to workout in.
