You have your peaceful days. But you also have those days that test you, the days that make you fee stressed. Stress can strip away your happiness. And how do you respond?

You can’t stop stress from creeping, in but there are several ways to manage stress and protect your happiness.

Here are some great ways to manage the stress in your life.

How To Manage Stress

1. Meditate, meditate, meditate!

We can never emphasize enough the importance of meditation.

Meditation has been known to have multiple benefits, especially if you practice it consistently. Among them is the fact that meditation helps us manage stress better.

A common argument among busy people is – they say don’t have time for meditation. They say they are already leading busy lives, how can they squeeze in more time for meditation?

It’s possible. If you can find time to check and update your social media accounts, you have time to meditate. With as little as 10 minutes a day, you can do a short meditation session.

Once you find out the benefits you can derive from meditation, you will probably want to increase the duration of your session as well. Through meditation, you get to relax your mind and your body too.

When you allow yourself to relax, your thoughts will become clearer. You will regain your focus. This is what you need to do the most when you are stressed. When you are getting lost amidst the stress, you can put things in perspective when you meditate. It will help you untangle your thoughts.

Furthermore, there are lots of ways to meditate. Did you know that yoga is a form of meditation?  Find a type of meditation that works from you. What’s important is you find time to meditate.

2. Get proper rest.

You probably don’t want to slow down as you may think you’ll just be wasting your time. So instead of taking a break, you try to plow down your to-do list in as much as you can.

We get you; you want to check off more items from the list to feel more productive. The reality is, we will never run out of things to do as long as we’re alive. That’s life, you will always have things to do.

If you keep on doing things without rest, you will just burn out [1]. No task is ever worth sacrificing your sleep for. If you make it a habit to be sleep deprived, your health will deteriorate over time.

When you lack sleep continuously, aside from adding to your stress – this increases your risk of having cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, anxiety, and depression.

Make sleep your priority. While you’re at it, make sure you have a room conducive for sleep. Try to avoid doing your tasks or projects inside your bedroom. Keep the clutter away, so you would feel more relaxed when you enter your room. You can make your home more zen with these tips.

If you’re using a very old bed, replace it already. You shouldn’t be losing sleep over an uncomfortable mattress. It’s now very easy to do that because you can now buy mattress online and it will be delivered right to your doorstep.

Or get a mattress in a box if you personally want to get it yourself, it’s just your usual mattress but fitted into a more compact package for easier handling. Just make your environment conducive for sleep so you can recover from the day’s stress.

Bottomline, at the end of the day you should be resting already. When you get enough sleep, you will feel less lethargic the next day. That means you will have better productivityand you will be able to handle stress better.

3. Find time for your passions.

Your hobbies and interests are sometimes the first to go when things get too busy. Here are some great hobbies for mental health.

You get sucked into the routine of work and chores that you forego doing the things that make you happy.

Why should you give up doing your passions in life? It’s understandable that these things take a backseat at times but it’s also important that you shouldn’t forget about them completely. You shouldn’t stop doing what you love just because it doesn’t pay the bills or keep your household running.

Do you feel rejuvenated when you immerse yourself in your passions? When you find time to do your hobbies or interests, it simply makes you happy. When you are happy, stress won’t easily tear you down. You have more ammunition against stress.

Similar to meditation, find time for your passions. You will find out that when you balance tasks and your passions, you will have a better disposition. Also, don’t feel guilty when you take a break and pursue your passions. You need it to be happy.

Fix your schedule.

Another common mistake among busy people is that they have too much on their plate. They say “yes” to a lot of things and they just end up with daily firefighting. The issue with this, you won’t have much progress with the most important tasks.

It’s important to take note of your priorities and they should be on top of your list. Build a schedule and make it a manageable one. There are only 24 hours in a day and as said earlier, sleep and rest are non-negotiable.

For the rest of the day, plan your activities accordingly. When you have a concrete list of what you are currently doing, it gives you more perspective on things. You just don’t say “yes” easily every time someone asks for help because your list reminds you that your schedule is already full.

When you know your priorities and you list them down, it will be easier not to overschedule. It takes time to fix your schedule constantly, but it will give you back your sanity. It prevents you from spreading yourself too thinly.

Stress is part of life. No one can completely avoid it. The best thing we could do is to manage it. There are several ways to lower stress and you can do them through meditation, sleeping well, and fixing your schedule. It’s important to manage your stress so it won’t make you unhappy in the long run. And you know it, it’s important to be happy as well. So, don’t be too consumed by your stress, you can manage it!
