10 Movies About Confidence That Will Make You Feel Like Magic

movies for confidence

Did you know you can watch movies for confidence?

This is how I improved my self-esteem. I used to suffer from self-esteem issues so bad I locked myself in my room for five years and never spoke to anyone.

Gaining self-confidence is hard. But there are some seriously good exercises you can use for self-confidence [Here is how I personally regained my self confidence]

As well as the amazing exercises in that link above, we can also watch movies about confidence.

Just as we can use movies to help with weight loss, we can use movies to help with self-confidence too.

The best self-confidence movies for kids are often animated ones. And the best self-confidence movies for adults are often spiritual ones [READ: Best Spiritual Movies]

Here are the top 10 movies for self-love and confidence. And remember, if you’re a parent trying to give your kids confidence, you can achieve a lot by teaching your kids mindfulness.

The top 10 movies for self-confidence

If you want to binge-watch movies, watch all 10 of these. They will massively boost your self-worth.

1: Forest Gump

Forest Gump is a great movie to watch when you need a confidence boost.

The story of how Forest Gump lives an amazing life despite his disadvantages. And it is so inspiring. If you ever feel like you can’t achieve something, Forest Gump will prove you wrong.

2: Star Wars

The story of how a little lost farm boy, Luke Skywalker, grows up to be the most powerful Jedi and the saviour of the galaxy. And it is one of the most popular movies of all time.

Actually, you might be surprised, but there is a lot in this movie about confidence. Star Wars teaches us that we can achieve amazing things no matter where we are right now. Honestly, this has to be one of the best movies for confidence (and Force Awakens is equally good, especially for kids).

3: The Lion King

The Lion King is a great movie for kids to watch for confidence. If you watch the story of Simba going from losing everything to reconnecting with himself and finally rising back up to strength, you will have no choice but to feel confident.

If you’re anything like me, though, you will cry like a baby when Simba’s father Mufasa dies.  Thankfully, you can also sing along with songs like “Hakuna Mutata” and “Just Can’t Wait To Be King.”

4: Harry Potter

Another excellent confidence movie for kids is Harry Potter.

Harry Potter feels the way a lot of us feel: he’s an outcast (an orphan) who feels like he doesn’t belong. But then he goes on a magical journey and discovers himself. And through his journey we see reflections of ourselves,  s we go from feeling alone and outcast to finding our place in the world.

5: Bolt

“It’s the super bark!”

Bolt is one of the most underrated Disney movies. It’s brilliant. One of their best. If you’re like me and you love dogs and Disney, you will absolutely love this movie.

In Bolt, all three of the main characters (Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino) learn about themselves and discover their true strength. You might cry when you hear Mitten’s backstory though. Just giving you a hair heads-up.

6: Aladdin

Hands up who feels like they don’t have enough and aren’t good enough?

Yeah. I know.

I’ve felt that way too.

And so did Aladdin.

But Aladdin went on to become a Prince and to save the kingdom from the evil Jafar. If this isn’t a great movie about confidence, I don’t know what is!

7: The Pursuit Of Happyness

The Pursuit of Happyness is a masterpiece. When Chris Gardner, a man who was facing poverty and struggling to support his family, finds his inner strength, it is so inspiring.

As you watch Chris Gardner bravely become a millionaire you will cry with joy.

8: Lord of the Rings

Lord of the Rings is one of the best movies for confidence. And not just because a bunch of halflings end up saving the world. Actually, the whole trilogy is packed full of reassuring messages. Like Sam’s speech:

LOTR The Two Towers - The Tales That Really Mattered...

9: Rocky

Rocky is basically the number one feel-good movie for any sports lover. And when Rocky cheers, “Adrian…!!!” at the end, when he’s won the belt, we all feel… just chipper 🙂

If this isn’t the best sports movie about confidence then I’m stumped. But feel free to share your opinion in a comment.

10: BFG

BFG is a great movie for anyone who is feeling a little lonely. It’s a classic tale of an orphan girl who finds her best friend: the Big Friendly Giant. The new version of this movie is excellent (IMO–some people gave negative reviews but I personally loved it).

This Book Explains How Movies Build Confidence

In Positive Psychology At The Movies, psychologists Ryan Niemec and Danny Wedding reveal how movies train the mind.

This book shows you which movies to watch for different benefits. For instance, if you want to watch a movie for self-confidence, you can flick to the corresponding chapter and the book will show you which movies to watch.

This book is awesome because:

  • It shows how movies change our minds
  • It tells you which movies to watch
  • It basically turns movies into a tool for personal mastery
  • It reveals the science of how movies give us confidence

Science has also proven that there are many benefits of watching positive movies. Confidence and self-love are two things thing movies can inspire in us.

Movies inspire the mind to create positive thought processes.

For instance, when we watch Star Wars we see a farm boy (Luke Skywalker) who has to find independence to leave his home. Having found independence he becomes more powerful and is therefore able to save the day.

Watching Star Wars teaches us that being independent leads to self-discovery, which leads to self-empowerment.

This is a positive thought sequence. We see how certain actions lead to positive outcomes.

The more positive thought sequences we build, the more positive we will be.

So:

  1. Watch positive movies
  2. Absorb positive thought sequences
  3. Train the mind to be more positive
  4. Feel positive
