Probably the coolest solution to social distancing, “yoga domes” have started popping up around Toronto as a way to let yogis like you and I practice yoga safely during quarantine.
Yoga studios have been searching for a way to continue to teach yoga during social isolation. Many yoga studios have been forced to close. And some have started teaching yoga online.
But a new solution is now allowing people to do yoga during social distancing: Yoga domes. A new pop-up intervention installs fifty of these domes—which look like they came right out of Avatar The domes are clear and frameless and are currently being installed around Toronto. Created by Lmnts Outdoor Studio, the domes let people practice yoga and other exercises safely outside while social distancing.
As you can see from the images, each dome holds one person but you still get that group feeling because you can see other yogis in their individual domes.
Lmnts Outdoor Studio is a “limited time pop-up Hot Yoga and Fitness Studio, located at the Stanley Barracks in downtown Toronto.” The event runs between June 21 until July 31, 2020. The geodesic domes are heated to reach temperature of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, making it perfect for Hot Yoga.
The domes are located at Hotel X, a luxury hotel on the Lake Ontario Waterfront in Downtown Toronto (temporarily closed due to the pandemic). The intervention creates a beautiful, healthy, and mindful way to practice your favourite types of yoga.
The domes are 7 feet tall and 12 feet wide, so you can easily practice yoga even you’re on the taller side. In total, one individual dome offers 110 square feet of practice space, and it comes with heaters and fans (given how hot it’s been in Ontario recently, I’ll take the fans please!).
I have to say for my part, I absolutely love this installation. Not only does it look cool, stylish and futuristic, but more importantly, it offers us a way to practice yoga safely.
